Detailed description

Course Aim

To enable staff to develop and awareness of and understanding of safeguarding processes and issues and how these relate to their agency's specific roles and responsibilities. 

Target Audience

 Staff or volunteers working at Level 3-6 or Core level who have the responsibility of safeguarding for their organisation. 

Prior Learning

 No prior learning or knowledge of Child Protection issues is expected.

 Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course participants will:

·        Have an awareness of the legislation and guidance underpinning safeguarding.

·        Describe the child protection process that follows a referral to children’s social care.

·        Understand the different ways in which children can be harmed and the possible indicators of abuse.

·        Identify personal attitudes and beliefs and their impact on the recognition of reporting of safeguarding concerns.

·        Recognise the need for honesty and respect at the start of any involvement with regard to their own agency‘s safeguarding policies and procedures, including responsibility to refer any worries about child welfare to the appropriate agency.

·        Develop skills in responding to concerns in accordance with agency guidelines, including communicating with children and parents.

·        Recognise the need for support and develop strategies to receive this.

Learning Methods

 There will be a mix of learning methods to promote participation and engagement with the training.  Please come along prepared to join in and learn from the trainers and each other.


The cost for this training will be dependent on your annual income and whether you are a Safer Member. If you are a Safer Member and your annual income is under £250k the cost will be £50. If your annual income is between £250-500K the cost is £70, and if your annual income is above £500k then the cost is £90. The cost for non-members is £120 per person.
