This course this course is still very much the ‘industry standard’ for running volunteer groups who are looking after green spaces.
Leadership Training Course Outline
This course is a six hour long event. The day consists of discussions and group-based exercises covering the requirements of leading practical projects, including organisation and health & safety, and highlighting points of group dynamics. The day is designed to be both informal and fun.
The objectives of the day are for the participants to be able to:
- Understand the key responsibilities of a leader and how to meet them.
- Explain the reasons for tool safety talks and practice their delivery.
- Practice techniques and skills, which help volunteers learn and enjoy the practical tasks and goals of the day.
- List five factors which leaders must take into account when leading volunteer groups.
- Describe how to work in an inclusive manner.
- Implement and monitor Risk Assessments, and record amendments.
The day will be broken down in the following manner:
- 10.00 Introductions and course objectives
- 10.15 Why people volunteer
- 10.30 The Leaders role
- 10.45 Giving Instructions
- 11.00 Group Dynamics
- 11.15 Break
- 11.30 Styles of Leadership
- 11.45 Tool Safety
- 12.30 Lunch (please bring your own)
- 1.15 Risk Assessment and monitoring
- 2.00 Planning the Day
- 2.30 Break
- 2.45 Motivation and Feedback
- 3.15 Dealing with Problems
- 3.45 Session review
4.00 Finish
Please note:
The course will run on a Thursday daytime, venue and exact date T.B.C. The cost will be £80 plus VAT per attendee, or £40 plus VAT for all members of groups who are part of the TCV community network, which is free to join at TCV Community Network Membership
