This workshop is targeted at people who have little or no knowledge of project management tools or techniques but have become involved with projects. They may..
be new or intended Project Managers, project administrators or support staff, who need to acquire a basic understanding in the shortest possible time.
What does it cover?
Defining a Project?
• Defining what we mean by project working and how it differs from the day job
• Determining a structured approach to managing projects - the project life cycle
• Understanding why projects fail
Scoping a Project
• Understanding the role of the project manager and other key stakeholders
• Setting and agreeing objectives, scope and constraints
Planning a Project
• Exploring the basic planning tools and techniques used in planning a project including Gantt Charts and Critical Path Analysis
• Determine the key project documentation used on a project
• Applying risk management tools and techniques to a project plan
• Costs, Budgets and Contingency Planning
Implementing a Project
• How to monitor, track and control activities
• Making changes to the project
• Determine corrective actions to ensure the project remains on track
• How to communicate with stakeholders during the project implementation
Closing and Reviewing a Project
• Understanding the need for a controlled close to a project
• Measuring what actually happened against the plan
• Learning lessons - both positive and negative
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
• Clearly define the purpose of the project to avoid any ambiguity and meet expectations
• Confidently plan, organise and document a project
• Identify and manage risks proactively to minimise the impact of deviations from the original plan.
• Effectively manage communications with the project stakeholders
• Become more effective in implementing, monitoring and controlling a project
• Handover the project in line with stakeholder expectations
Duration: One-day course (9:30am – 4:30pm approximately)
Equipment: No equipment is necessary for you to bring to the course. Pens and note paper will be available.
Lunch provided: For full day training courses a lunch with sandwich or salad, crisps and cake or fruit will be provided. Hot drinks and refreshments will also be available throughout.
